Das PLATZprojekt

Fössestraße 103, 30453 Hannover Linden

Was ist das PLATZprojekt?

Modellprojekt. Forschungsprojekt. Best-Practice-Projekt.

What is the PLATZprojekt?

Model project. Research project. Best practice project. The PLATZprojekt has been called many things. But above all else, we are a DO-Ocracy. In other words, we are what our members create.
We give people the space they need to get creative. Much-needed space that our city is currently lacking. A space to create projects, processes and products that benefit us all. Be it a workshop, venue or reading, a start-up, club or any other idea – the PLATZprojekt not only gives you the space required, but also all the infrastructure you need to bring your idea to life.

It all started back in 2013 with a run-down, unused industrial site, where a handful of passionate, creative people began to build, design and experiment. Since no official permission had been granted at this point, old shipping containers were used as rooms so that they could be moved quickly.
However, this flexible architectural concept remains in place to this day.

In the meantime, our site has been purchased by the City of Hannover, enabling us to plan and expand our concept over the long term. As a recognised non-profit organisation, we now have almost
300 members and have helped countless projects on their road to success. Together, we are making an important contribution to a viable society and way of life. PLATZprojekt is known across Germany
as a hotbed for unconventional ideas and has even received multiple awards for its work.

How we work

Here at PLATZprojekt, we approach questions and challenges with a solution-oriented attitude:
Instead of laying out rules, concerns and apprehensions, we say “What can we do to facilitate project
XY?”.
Thanks to these underlying conditions and flat hierarchies in a dynamic environment, we empower all
our stakeholders to organise and participate in projects. Our goal is to promote the principles of
democracy, including emergent order, DO-Ocracy and holocracy.

Field lab – Experimental hub – A place of opportunity

We see ourselves as a field lab. We have translated the idea of a scientific lab to create a lab for social and political processes. By taking action and experimenting, our stakeholders learn about and start to question their own patterns of thinking. Within our field labs, they make new findings that won’t
just make a localised impact, but can also be transferred to a broader context. Our field labs are therefore also a place of learning.

The “PLATZprojekt field lab” is a place where ideas can be developed, studied and implemented.

The underlying idea is:
(1) To provide a place and the infrastructure for ideas that (generally) lack the space they need to be brought to life in an urban environment
(2) To promote autonomy and empowerment and to help people to help themselves
(3) To create a meeting place without any commercial practices
(4) To come up with new ways for groups to make decisions and use space
(5) To promote the objectives of our charter (art and culture, civil engagement, educational and vocational training, promotion of tolerance and understanding).

As well as improving the quality of life for inhabitants of the neighbourhoods that directly adjoin PLATZprojekt thanks to its wide array of educational, cultural and sporting events, the project is also
making waves across the city of Hannover with a number of cooperations.
